Properties

D-25 is Colorless, transparent, low-viscosity liquid. Soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, chain hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons.

Contains one propyl group and three hydrolyzable alkoxy groups.

Reacts with inorganic materials.

It can be hydrolyzed and polycondensed to form an elastomer or hydrophobic layer.

Reactivity

In many sol-gel applications D-25 is partially hydrolyzed to form a preproduct that can be further crosslinked using temperature. This pre-hydrolysis is often made in conjunction with methyltrimethoxysilane or other organofunctional silanes, silicic acid esters, or even an aqueous silica sol.

D-25 reacts faster with water than phenyltriethoxysilane.

Application

D-25 is used to modify the suface of inorganic fillers such as wollastonite and aluminum trihydroxide. It makes the surface of these inorganic fillers more hydrophobic and thus increases their dispersability in mineral-filled polymers.

D-25 is especially suited for polymers that are processed at elevated temperatures. D-25 reduces the viscosity of the polymer melt.
